China

About two years ago I went to China for three weeks. I spent the first week in and around Shanghai with my wife then, when she had to return to Japan for work, I met up with my friend Robert and we visited Beijing, Xi’an and Nanjing before I returned to Shanghai and flew home. It was an amazing trip, full of the usual highs and lows of backpacking and I got the chance to see some of the most wonderful sights: hiking along an isolated, abandoned section of the Great Wall, the Terracotta Warriors, the Nanjing Massacre Museum. While travelling I noted down a few things which slowly turned into a sequence of haiku-like short poems. These are now included in the April issue of Eastlit. They also published a section from my novel Dog Mountain in their February issue, so another thank you to them.
